105.9 The Hog \u2013 WWHG is a broadcast station from Evansville, Wisconsin, United States. It plays the hit songs of famous artists all time and all day. This radio is for all types of people in the world. It is also playing Classic Rock, Rock.<\/span><\/p>\n

WWHG<\/b> (105.9 FM <\/span>MHz<\/span>) is a commercial Active Rock<\/a> Leaning- <\/span>Mainstream Rock<\/span> radio station<\/span> licensed to <\/span>Evansville, Wisconsin,<\/span> and serving the areas of <\/span>Madison<\/span> and <\/span>Janesville<\/span>. <\/span>The station is owned by Scott Thompson, through licensee Big Radio, and began a new rock music format as “105-9 The Hog” on January 13, 2007, after several years with a <\/span>Rhythmic Top 40<\/span> format.<\/span><\/p>\n

After being instituted a construction permit as <\/span>WEBU<\/b> in 1988, the station signed on with an <\/span>adult contemporary<\/span> format, and then <\/span>classic rock<\/span>, all under the call letters <\/span>WMJB<\/b>. After stunting with TV theme songs, the station flipped to <\/span>rhythmic adult contemporary<\/span> in the fall of 1997. Adopting the calls <\/span>WKPO<\/b>, the station was known as “Power 105-9” with a more pop\/dance sound featuring hits from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s with less repetition. By 2000, it had evolved into a full-blown <\/span>Rhythmic CHR<\/span> format. In December 2001, the station became known as “105-9 KPO”; soon after, it became “Hot 105-9” with the same format. As a rhythmic station, WKPO fared better in the <\/span>Janesville<\/span> area (where its signal was at its strongest), although it did have some success in the <\/span>Madison<\/span> area as its format was unique to that market. During its time as a Rhythmic, the station was an affiliate of the <\/span>Portland, Oregon<\/span>-based “<\/span>Playhouse<\/span>” morning show.<\/span><\/p>\n

At Midnight on January 10, 2007, WKPO abruptly dropped <\/span>Rhythmic Top 40<\/span>. After looping “<\/span>Hip Hop Is Dead<\/span>” by <\/span>Nas<\/span> all day on the 10th, the station reverted to a <\/span>stunt<\/span> of different music from different formats, with voiceovers suggesting any one of them could be the new format that would launch on January 13. At 10 AM on the 13th, WKPO’s new format was unveiled: <\/span>album-oriented rock<\/span> as “105.9 The Hog,” promising “Everything that rocks, not just from one decade.” “<\/span>You Shook Me All Night Long<\/span>” by <\/span>AC\/DC<\/span> and “<\/span>Smells Like Teen Spirit<\/span>” by <\/span>Nirvana<\/span> were the first two songs played on the new “105-9 The Hog.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The new format and the “Hog” imaging are a direct copy of Saga Communications-owned <\/span>WHQG<\/span> in <\/span>Milwaukee<\/span> (“102.9 The Hog”). Indeed, “105-9 The Hog” aired the <\/span>Bob and Brian<\/span> show\u2014a program that originates from WHQG\u2014during its morning drive time for a period. (The show had aired on sister station <\/span>WTLX<\/span> since 2003.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Coinciding with the format switch, the station’s call letters changed to <\/span>WWHG<\/b> (although in the days immediately after the flip, the station did identify themselves with the calls “WHGG”.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, the Rhythmic format would make a surprise return to the Madison radio market on January 26, 2007, when WSLK dropped their simulcast of WHLK to become <\/span>WJQM<\/span>, “106.7 Jamz.” When the <\/span>Wisconsin State Journal<\/span><\/i> asked Keith Williams, general manager of WWHG, about the format being picked up by another outlet in the market, he said has no regrets about switching off the rap music, but he said he’ll listen to the new hip-hop station. “I love the format,” Williams said. “I wish them the best of luck.”<\/span><\/p>\n

In January 2014, <\/span>Good Karma Broadcasting<\/span> announced that it would sell WWHG and sister station <\/span>WTJK<\/span> (1380 AM) to Scott Thompson’s Big Radio. As part of the deal, the new owners began operating the stations through a <\/span>local marketing agreement<\/span> on February 1. The sale was completed on May 12, 2014, at a purchase price of 1.45 million.<\/span><\/p>\n
