KICY Radio

KICY Radio

Since KICY Radio first signed-on Easter Sunday, April 17 of 1960, KICY Radio has continued to broadcast the good news of Jesus Christ throughout Western Alaska and the Russian Far East. We have increased our power to 50,000 watts, 24 hours a day which allows KICY AM 850 the opportunity to send the gospel into some places where other forms of media are not readily available. We operate two distinct radio stations, KICY AM-850 & ICY 100.3 FM. While the AM station broadcasts at 50,000 watts and can be heard throughout the entire region, our FM station is programmed for and serves the City of Nome and surrounding communities.

Country music is a genre of American popular music that originated in the Southern United States in the 1920s. It takes its roots from the southeastern genre of American folk music and Western music. Blues modes have been used extensively throughout its recorded history. Country music often consists of ballads and dance tunes with generally simple forms and harmonies accompanied by mostly string instruments such as banjos, electric and acoustic guitars, dobros and fiddles as well as harmonicas. The term country music gained popularity in the 1940s in preference to the earlier term hillbilly music; it came to encompass Western music, which evolved parallel to hillbilly music from similar roots, in the mid-20th century. The term country music is used today to describe many styles and subgenres.
